How and where can I find my EIN / Federal Tax ID?

Modified on Wed, 30 Aug 2023 at 10:21 AM

Your EIN (Employer Identification Number) aka Federal Tax ID is publicly available information that is required by TCR A2P 10DLC regulation (for more details on TCR - please, see this article)

It  is a unique nine-digit number issued by the I.R.S.

NOTE: If you're registering a US entity, please find the exact legal business name as registered with the EIN, which can be found on the CP 575 EIN Confirmation Letter. An exact match between the legal business name and the EIN as displayed on CP 575 is required for the Brand to be successfully registered. Please do not use the legal business name found on the W2 or W9 forms as they may be different from what you have on the CP 575 notice. If you've misplaced your CP 575 notice, you may request a 147c letter from the IRS and use the information there for registration.

Please note that your full legal business name may span multiple lines on your CP 575 / 147c letter. If that is the case, you must input all the lines above the address line (which constitutes your full legal business name) instead of just using the first line when you submit TCR A2P 10DLC registration.

If you are struggling to find your EIN/ Tax ID, please, follow the steps described below.

The following websites might be helpful to explain more and help you find your EIN:

  • Find the computer-generated notice that was issued by the IRS when you applied for your EIN. This notice is issued as a confirmation of your application for, and receipt of an EIN.
  • If you used your EIN to open a bank account, or apply for any type of state or local license, you should contact the bank or agency to secure your EIN.
  • Find a previously filed tax return for your existing entity (if you have filed a return) for which you have your lost or misplaced EIN.  Your previously filed return should be notated with your EIN.

  • Ask the IRS to search for your EIN by calling the Business & Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933
  • The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
